Friday, January 15: The Redskins Join Relief Efforts In Haiti [Updated]

A few people asked me on Twitter yesterday what the Redskins would be doing to help people affected by the catastrophic earthquake that devastated Haiti, and I was somewhat embarrassed to admit that I had no idea.
Now I do.
As they did following Katrina, 9/11, and other disasters, the Redskins are mobilizing their not-insignificant resources to help however they can. In this case, the team is joining with business partner Diageo to fly medical supplies, clothing, and personnel to the disaster scene. Owner Daniel M. Snyder is donating use of his private airplane, and former Redskin Ken Harvey will be joining the team.
“We’re not a relief organization, but there are times when our resources allow us to step in and make a difference, if only a small one,” Snyder said. “Diageo has been involved in relief efforts around the world for many years, and we’re fortunate to be able to partner with them, Getting the right people and supplies to Haiti is critically important, and we’re providing our best resources.”
The relief operations are being coordinated in conjunction with The Bridge Foundation, a long-time partner in disaster relief operations.
UPDATE:
The NFL is also encouraging people to donate via the Red Cross’ text-to-give line (text “HAITI” to “90999″) or via RedCross.org. Another option for donations is Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation partner Operation Blessing, and organization that’s already on the ground in Haiti providing emergency medical kits, antibiotics, respiratory medicines, blankets, MREs, bottled water, and more to people in need.
