Stump Mitchell: Wired Up

Posted by Matt Terl on January 12, 2010 – 5:26 pm

In honor of Stump Mitchell’s departure, here’s his Wired Up feature from back in minicamp courtesy of the fine folks at the Redskins Broadcast Network. Mitchell was a pretty intense coach, not a guy who seemed overly concerned with his public persona, but this shows a lighter-hearted side of him. He jokes with Mike Sellers, because everyone jokes with Mike Sellers; he tried to teach Anthony Alridge how to not fumble, because that’s what Anthony Alridge needed; and he tries to encourage Domonique Dorsey to field punts with a football tucked under each arm. All told, it’s a solid way to spend three minutes.

No official word yet on any coaching hires with the Redskins (aside from that whole Mike Shanahan thing). Read more »

Tuesday, January 12: Rooting For … The Cowboys?

Posted by Matt Terl on January 12, 2010 – 11:21 am

An interesting item on ProFootballTalk this morning about the provisions put into the CBA to prevent an uncapped year from turning into the rich getting richer. I hadn’t been thinking about it much because it was so far from relevant to the extremely non-playoff 2009 Redskins, but it boils down to this: teams in the final eight will be faced with certain limitations in the upcoming 2010 free agency period.

Here are the four major restrictions as cited in PFT, with me attempting to do a lawyerese-to-English translation on each one. Read more »
