Jim Zorn's Press Conference Is Surprisingly Un-Depressing

Posted by Matt Terl on December 7, 2009 – 4:03 pm

The 33-30 loss to the Saints yesterday was depressing, almost debilitatingly so. All day, I’ve found myself in conversations with people in the building — coaches, players, media, staff — who each have an incredibly specific play that they’ve fixated on. If only this one play had gone just a little differently; if only the one guy had broken his route off just a little quicker; if only (of course) Shaun Suisham‘s field goal had gone through.

So it was somewhat unusual to find head coach Jim Zorn in something of a cheerful mood for his weekly press conference. Maybe cheerful is overstating it a little bit, but Zorn had a relaxed cheeriness about him that we haven’t seen much of this season, and it was hard to be too depressed about the press conference itself — unless, of course, you’re Shaun Suisham. About him, Zorn wasn’t so cheery.

For example, yesterday after the game, Zorn suggested that maybe there was something wrong with the snap that led to Suisham’s miss. Today, not so much.

Monday, December 7: Update On Antwaan Randle El's Injury, Weird Bike

Posted by Matt Terl on December 7, 2009 – 2:11 pm

Antwaan Randle El had a pretty solid receiving day yesterday, four catches for 73 yards including one gorgeous 44-yarder that drove him from the game with a pretty frightening looking shoulder injury. Well, the shoulder injury turned out to be a minor separation, and head coach Jim Zorn today said that Randle El will be fine.

Which is good, because it also means that he hasn’t managed to kill himself driving his crazy three-wheeled bike thing. I wrote about this before, but now the Military Times has video, so I figured I’d share that as well. (I’m not sure WHY the Military Times is interested, but there you go.) It’s worth watching; the vehicle is even weirder when you see it in motion.

More from Zorn’s day-after-the-staggeringly-depressing-defeat press conference in a little bit.
