Chris Cooley Has A Scooter

Posted by Matt Terl on November 12, 2009 – 5:54 pm

Here’s the bad news about Chris Cooley: he’s already been declared out for Sunday’s game. He’s moving around with a walking boot and, occasionally, crutches. Even if he can possibly come back this season, it won’t happen for weeks.

Here’s the good news about Chris Cooley: he’s still got his sense of humor. He showed up in the offices at Redskins Park today riding this contraption, which he compared to a Razor scooter.

A bystander observed that it was awesome and asked if he could buy one. “Sure,” Cooley said, “Just go to InjuredGuyScooters.com.”

“Really?” the bystander asked.

“No,” Cooley said, and scootered off.

(The actual website is scootaboutkneescooters.com, which doesn’t go the Razor scooter route, instead describing the device as “an alternative to crutches or walker for individuals who want to remain active and continue working or going to school, even with foot or ankle injuries.”) Read more »

Your Starting Right Guard: Chad Rinehart

Posted by Matt Terl on November 12, 2009 – 4:10 pm

This is what I thought I saw during yesterday’s practice, and it was confirmed today: Chad Rinehart will be stepping in at right guard in relief of Will Montgomery. There were rumors of this move last week; this week it’s actually happening.

Rinehart spoke briefly to the media today, and — like Levi Jones — said more or less what you’d expect. Let’s see if he hits all the same categories Jones did. Read more »

Levi Jones Is Confident, Complimentary Of Stephon Heyer

Posted by Matt Terl on November 12, 2009 – 11:19 am

Your new starting left tackle, as of this week’s latest offensive line reshuffle, is Levi Jones. Jones talked to reporters yesterday and said all the things you’d expect:

The “I’m Up To Speed” Thing:
“I mean, any time you get into any situation, and you get more repetitions at it, you get more of a look at it, and get more practice at it you’re going to feel more confident, know what I’m sayin’? It wasn’t necessarily an issue of me having confidence with myself. It was a new scheme – all the plays were different, and in this case the techniques were different. I feel like I’ve got a good grasp on all of that, so I’m going in fairly confident.”

The “My Health Problems Are Behind Me” Thing:
“I haven’t felt this good in a long time. I’m definitely anxious to get out there and play. Right now I’m feeling like I’m where I left off before I got injured. We’ve got a great medical staff here that’s done a wonderful job of pre-hab versus rehab, and just making sure that all of the guys are taken care of before they get out there and get injured. Most of the injuries in the league come from something being out of whack – a hip or pelvis or something like that – and they go out there and play on it and injure themselves because they weren’t in good shape to begin with before they get injured, or they’ve got some small nagging injury that’s hampering something else and hurting something else.”

The “This Week’s Opponent Is AWESOME” Thing:
“[Broncos DE Elvis Dumervil is] definitely difficult for a lot of tackles that can’t get down there and play with him, can’t bend their knees. The people you see that struggle with him the most are the taller people that he can run underneath, because the guy is 5’11”, and he’s good and he’s strong – he’s light but he’s still strong like any other defensive end. He’s a challenge for a lot of people.”

But he also added one thing that was a little unexpected. Read more »

Redskins Chat With Troops

Posted by Matt Terl on November 12, 2009 – 9:47 am

A Hypothetical Redskins Helmet Redesign

Posted by Matt Terl on November 12, 2009 – 9:29 am

One of the questions we receive most on Redskins Nation — not as often as the ones about Marko Mitchell, I don’t think, but still pretty often — are about potential changes to the Redskins uniform. Whether people just want to discuss burgundy jerseys over burgundy pants (I’m opposed), white jerseys over white pants (indifferent), or going full throwback (I’m in favor), it’s something that folks really like to discuss.

Well, Ken Carbone, a graphic designer who writes for Fast Company magazine decided to take a stab at redesigning what are, in his opinion, some of the worst helmets in the NFL. And the Redskins were on the list.

Among the weakest designs are the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers , whose visually complicated logos become a graphic mess when televised and, I imagine, even if you’re sitting on the fifty-yard line.

So here’s what Carbone came up with, along with professional illustrator and retoucher Mike Racz:

And I have to admit, I think it’s kinda awesome. Read more »

Thursday, November 12: Redskins And Make-A-Wish

Posted by Matt Terl on November 12, 2009 – 8:22 am

It’s been a week full of charitable events for the Redskins; this one is from Monday, a fundraiser through the Redskins Charitable Foundation for the Make-A-Wish Foundation at Morton’s The Steakhouse. Redskins players — including Albert Haynesworth, Jeremy Jarmon, and Jason Campbell — acted as servers, hosts, bartenders and so on, with all the tips and other proceeds going to charity.

And, apparently, Make-A-Wish made one young man’s dream of being a TV presenter come true, as Rock Cartwright seems very enthusiastic about interviewing his teammates for this Redskins.com TV piece.
