Redskins vs. Chiefs - Third Quarter Thoughts
Best news about this quarter: Todd Collins is in. I'm not saying this is good news because I necessarily think that Collins is that much better than Jason Campbell (although Campbell has been having an undeniably bad string of games lately), but because it means all the commenters who have been clamoring for this feel at least a little better right now.
And it looked like the QB switch was going to come up aces: Collins's first pass went 42 yards to Santana Moss.
The second-best news this quarter? Clinton Portis running a career-long 78 yards to the Kansas City 10-yard line.
But both those big plays led to only six points, and the game is tied.
Something to watch: the Collins substitution should provide at least a little bit more data about how much Campbell and Zorn each contributed to the offensive struggles over the last few games, depending on how much the offense changes now. Guess this was a good day to run that Rich Gannon/Todd Collins thing.

Sure looks like Collins was the answer....idiots! Tom Brady couldn't even succeed in this offense behind that OL and Zorn calling these so called "plays" Campbell gives the team a better chance because he can atleast dodge and move around in the pocket.

this is the biggest piece of crap we have put on the field in my 39 year life. Good game Haynesworth and Defense....Zorn way to punt it away with 2 min left. a 1st down kills you either way Einstien.

It is getting harder each week to watch this team. Once again the defence has looked great but if the skins had a field goal kicker that could kick at least 60 yards or more there could be 1 more win.

Ok, after that game, can we please throw out the Todd Collins will fix our offense OMG put him in now thoughts? Because right there, clear evidence, he won't. With the exception of one pass completed to Santana Moss, the offense looked EXACTLY the same, only now the QB has less arm strength, and one foot in the grave.
The play calling is abyssal, the offensive line play and depth is poor. We need a new play caller, so we can stop letting down what is a championship caliber season out of our defense.

For all the people saying bench Campbell. We benched him, now we have a qb who can't move in the pocket for ****. His arm isn't strong enough to go more than 50 yards. No offense to Collins but, I knew he wasn't the answer for us. It's not the qb position its the d*** o-line and play-calling. Campbell would had gave us a better chance to win. Since he's mobile and has a arm. He didn't play well in the first half. But, we all notice most of the time he has a bad first half and step up in the second half. This team is horrible. They still my team but, when you watch the game you don't even have confidence anymore...

Brennan should had lost his job in the preseason. He was horrible. Daniels should had been our number #3 qb. Brennan not the answer either....

The way that Campbell was playing, Zorn had to pull him. Collins came in off the bench and at least led a couple of scoring drives. Two field goals is not much but it is 6 more points than Campbell produced in his half.
I do find it amusing that the Campbell supporters who have said we just need to give JC more time to show what he's got (after all, he's only had 42 starts, right?) apparently only think that applies to JC, not to Collins. Collins has played exactly one half of a game this year after a week of receiving little to no snaps and they are ready to bury him.
I don't know if Collins, with a week of preparation as a starter, will improve the Skins offense or not, but I don't think he could bring it down by much. This is actually the point at which I am really upset that the Skins shelved Colt Brennan and let Chase Daniel get away because the competetive portion of the season is over and now would be a great time to give a young, promising QB some starts. I love the Redskins but I don't see them going better than 5-11 this year after this debacle.

the game could have been won after the portis 79 yard run. however, the "coach" ran two plays with an empty backfield with a QB who hadn't played in 2 1/2 years!! wouldn't you want betts back there to at least play-action with?? it was asking too much of collins. good move to put him in, though. if memory serves correct, he is the one who got us to the playoffs the last time!!
