Hunter Smith Is 50-50 For Sunday, Also For Assisting William Wallace

Hunter Smith
may be available to punt Sunday. He stopped and discussed that with the media after eating lunch, talking in his usual easygoing fashion about knowing how far he could push his leg without risking reinjury and the like.

“Tomorrow after practice, I’m gonna punt some,” he said, “and we’ll see then, make a decision based on how that goes. We’ve done what we needed to do this week, which is to strengthen it and rest it. It’s probably a three week injury; we’re gonna try and make it back in two weeks.”

Smith and kicker Shuan Suisham were much more enthusiastic immediately after practice, when Smith walked in from the cold wearing a black balaclava and both he and Suisham immediately began urging me to take his picture.

“Have you seen Braveheart?” Suisham asked.

I have, about a decade ago, and have no recollection of it whatsoever.

Robert the Bruce,” Suisham said. “Google it.”

And they were right — there is some resemblance there.

Smith is the one on the right.

About that, Smith was straightforward and gung-ho. The punting thing … he’s being understandably more cautious about that. “I would imagine that I would feel much better than last week at this time,” he said. “That’s the best I could give you…. I’ll go out [tomorrow], and right now there’s a 50-50 chance.”
