Hunter Smith Is Hopeful, Shaun Suisham Is Thankful (In The Canadian Tradition)

As I mentioned this morning, Glenn Pakulak is back in the building (and still totally enthused to be here, too: "Alive for another week," he said today).

But don't rule Hunter Smith out just yet. "We're just taking it day-to-day," Smith said, "see how it feels. It's significantly better than it was this time last week, but I couldn't make any promises on playing or not."

Smith was exceedingly frustrated about not having been able to contribute last week -- "It was difficult," he said bluntly. "I don't like it. I wanna be out there helping our team, but like I said, at the same time, I wanna be well when I come back." -- but he was complimentary of Pakulak's work in relief.

"We needed somebody to come in and get the job done for us," Smith said, "and he got the job done. I think most importantly, Glenn came in and he held well [for] field goals and extra points; we were concerned about that, just being a change for Shaun [Suisham], and it wasn't too bad."

Suisham was completely copacetic about the holding situation, but really wanted to discuss Monday's Canadian Thanksgiving.

How'd Pakulak do holding the ball? "Great," Suisham said, "Did a good job."

If he has to go again this week...? "We'll be fine," he said.

Okay, I'll bite. How was Canadian Thanksgiving? "It was great, man," Suisham said. "My wife cooked turkey, some green bean casserole, some corn soufflé, pumpkin pie. I thought I was just gonna get a pie out of the deal, but I came home and my wife had a whole bunch of stuff made, which was real nice. I haven't had Thanksgiving in a long time, but now that our daughter has dual citizenship, there's two Canadians in the house and they need a Thanksgiving."

But ... that sounds just like Thanksgiving in the U.S. "Yeah," Suisham said. "It was great. And it was on a Monday, so there was even a football game on. I could flip back and forth from the football game to the Caps."

Suisham also posed something of a trivia question. "So," he said, in the tones of someone who is asking a question just to tell you what the answer is, "why is Canadian Thanksgiving earlier in the calendar year than U.S. Thanksgiving?"

Anyone feel like taking a guess?
