One More Redskins Video

NFL Films has been doing great work with the Redskins this week, between yesterday’s fantastic Jim Zorn/Jason Campbell video and this latest piece, a dinner with much of the team’s offensive line.

It’s an interesting look at the players off the field, and — although the conversation seems a little stilted at times, you really do get a sense of the personalities on the line (and, by extension, a sense of how much the loss of Randy Thomas for the season means).

I followed up on two quick sections with the players involved today.
Early on, it certainly sounds like rookie offensive lineman Edwin Williams is planning to fight the notoriously cantankerous Albert Haynesworth.

“I didn’t say that,” Williams said today, almost frantically. “It was honestly a leading question from Chris Samuels! He led me there! Let’s just go ahead and keep that secret.” I pointed out that it was on the internet, and he dismissed the concern. “Haynesworth ain’t gonna see it.”

I turned to walk away, and Williams called after me, “What, you gonna go mention it to him now?” He settled down when I explained that I was just looking for D’Anthony Batiste.

Batiste gets off one of the best lines of the segment, saying that new Lions defensive tackle Grady Jackson “sweats hamburger water and Sweet Baby Ray’s,” and — unlike Williams — he wasn’t backing down today.

“I mean, I was with Grady when I was in Atlanta and he’s a pretty fun guy,” Batiste told me, “so I think he’ll get a good laugh out of it if he sees it. But he really does. You might be able to smell it on the football field when we’re out there.”
