Coach Zorn Talks About Filling Randy Thomas's Shoes

Posted by Matt Terl on September 21, 2009 – 4:07 pm

The lowlight of head coach Jim Zorn’s press conference today was the official announcement that RG Randy Thomas “has a complete tear of the right bicep. He’s going to have surgery on Wednesday or Thursday.” Zorn continued, “We are very disappointed and he is very disappointed. He felt it pop, so we’re going to get that repaired. He will be on injured reserve.”

(Thomas didn’t speak, but did issue a statement through the team: “I am just very disappointed right now. It hurts because I want to be out there with my teammates. Monday, September 21: An Overlooked Red Zone Option

Posted by Matt Terl on September 21, 2009 – 9:02 am

So you may have heard — for example, from the infographic that stretches across the entire front page of today’s Washington Post sports section — that the Redskins did not do well in the red zone yesterday. Five trips into the red zone yielded only three field goals. (To be perfectly fair, the fourth trip could’ve led to another kick but ended with the hotly-debated attempt to push the ball in, and the fifth trip was the final kneel-down.) Not too good, and the players were not particularly thrilled either.

“Yeah, it’s frustrating,” Chris Cooley said. “I felt like a lot of guys played a good game; we just weren’t able to punch it in a couple times. And it is what it is.”
