NFL China Comes To Redskins Park

Posted by Matt Terl on September 8, 2009 – 3:11 pm

International media crews are not an entirely unexpected sight at Redskins Park. Even though NFL Europa is now defunct, the NFL still works to expand the brand overseas, and every once in a while a foreign broadcast network will send a crew to see practice, talk to the players, and so on.

Still, a contingent of 32 people is always going to raise some eyebrows, doubly so when they hail from NFL China and include not only cameramen, producers, on-air talent, grips, and so on, but also an entire Chinese rock band.

Rookie offensive lineman Edwin Williams, for example, was approached about speaking to the crew, and responded, “NFL China?”

Yep. China.

Redskins: The Breakfast Cereal

Posted by Matt Terl on September 8, 2009 – 12:29 pm

For those frustrating mornings when this blog, the rest of Redskins.com, the myriad of other Redskins blogs, the sports section of the newspaper, Comcast SportsNet’s SportsRise show, the two sportstalk radio stations in the area, and all the other Redskins delivery methods are simply not sufficient for your Redskins-related needs, there is now a solution.

It’s Breakfast Blitz cereal, available at Harris Teeter grocery stores throughout the DMV.

Because it would probably be unwise to associate an NFL team with a cereal with zero nutritional content, this tastes much closer to Honey Nut Cheerios than anything else, and does not contain any marshmallows, crunch berries, or yogurt-covered granola clusters. And it tastes much, much better than the other Redskins-related breakfast option of opening a Wheaties box from one of the Super Bowl wins. (Cheaper, too.)

Chris Cooley and my cluttered desk are not included with cereal purchase, although there is a “Breakfast With The Rookies” sweepstakes advertised on the back of the box.

So that’s breakfast conquered. Coming up next, Redskins: The Flamethrower. The kid’ll love it.

(For those of you who don’t immediately recognize 22 year old movie quotes, the explanation for that last paragraph — and the title of the post, too — after the jump.) Read more »

Tuesday, September 8: Yesterday's Practice

Posted by Matt Terl on September 8, 2009 – 9:15 am

A few quick notes from yesterday’s afternoon practice in shorts and shells:

• The strangest part of this first practice of the 2009 regular season was seeing Colt Brennan in sweats on the sideline while newly-signed Andre’ Woodson — standing tall and wearing number 2 — works out with the quarterbacks. Here’s Coach Zorn from the post-practice press conference above, talking about some of the reasons that Woodson is here: “We like his size, and I think he has a good presence. He has escape ability, which I saw as I watched him. It is necessary for this offense. I was impressed with his deep ball. We just have to work on some intermediate things and we will be all right.”
