The Redskins Cuts, And Mason Nation Can Rejoice
In addition to moving Colt Brennan to injured reserve, here are the other 21 players the Redskins have released to get the roster down to the league-mandated 53. - TE Robbie Agnone
- RB Anthony Alridge
- G/T Jeremy Bridges
- T Scott Burley
- DE Alex Buzbee
- QB Chase Daniel
- DT Antonio Dixon
- RB Dominique Dorsey
- CB Doug Dutch
- WR Keith Eloi
- LB Cody Glenn
- WR D.J. Hackett
- S Lendy Holmes
Continued after the jump.
- DE Rob Jackson
- K Dave Rayner
- G Rueben Riley
- WR Trent Shelton
- DL J.D. Skolnitsky
- LB Robert Thomas
- FB Eddie Williams
- LB Darrel Young
Of note:
This means that the third time was the charm for Marcus Mason, now the fourth running back on your Washington Redskins. Guess not playing in the Jaguars game was a good thing.
It's official: Marko Mitchell is your fifth wide receiver.
Shaun Suisham returns as kicker, meaning that you may not have seen the last of Shaun Suisham's Happy Ice Tub Funtime.
The most surprising name on the list to me is Jeremy Bridges, and the most surprising name implied by the list -- albeit exciting to me -- is C/G Edwin Williams making the roster. Local kid makes good.
The biggest casualty of the cuts is the Redskins Twitter presence -- @ChaseDaniel, @KEloi16, and @TrentShelton, gone in one swell foop. Daniel earlier said that he expects to be back on the practice squad, which would help improve things; it remains to be seen if either of the other two sticks around as well.

That's it. 53 is the limit. With the realistic potential there will be injuries, you will see someone that was cut now to be on the roster later.

Is there any indication of who they are looking at for the practice squad besides Daniels (if they clear waivers)?

Why is everyone so HIGH on Marcus Mason? He scored one 1 yrd. TD. Everyone needs to relax about his amazing 2008 preseason. I have seen nothing that says he deserves to make this team! Why would we waste a spot on a 4th string RB? Matt-- please make an argument because he hasn't done anything to the educated eye.

Marcus Mason is a solid backup and potential down the line running back much in the mold of clinton portis. He is a better running back than rock cartwright, I can see rocks role being primarily special teams with mason taking any carries that would have gone his way in the regular season (the NFL is running back by commitee now with the exception of minnesota!!)

Matty Nicks...Apparently he's done something, cuz the coaches are more educated than we are!! He'll definately be able to do more than Brennan would have holding a clip board all year!!
Glad to c Mitchell get the 5th WR spot too.
Hail Skinz!

I think Mason making the team pushes Rock to strictly special teams. I don't consider that a wasted spot...he runs the ball a lot better than Rock.

So these guys made it:
Robert Henson
Chris Wilson
YODER
D'Anthony Batiste?
Terl---How is it possible that Tryon, Westrbook, and Barnes all made the team? Are they keeping 6 corners b/c of Rogers' injuries? And thanks for the post I was waiting forever for the skins to put up the headline.

Jeremy Bridges is surprising. He was a guy that could play G and T. I though for sure he would improve the depth. I hope that means Rinehart is ready to go.

HAHA where's my favorite poster who said when MASON got cut he would be back to say "I told You so" lol haha. eating your words now. Mason got kept because he earned it. last year and this year you could see he was working his butt off. he never gave up, always gave a strong 2nd effort and would always fight for extra yardage. he probably won't get a lot of playing time but this shows hard work and perserverance can pay off!! All hail the Skins. I love it. Henson, Mitchell, Jarmon, Mason... Hell Yeah!!

I don't understand Batiste over Bridges. Batiste seemed to get pushed around. I like Mason but he was on a couple of other teams last year and they let him go. Alridge's kickoff decision and fumble probably cost him the roster spot.

Matt - you basically called it earlier saying Daniel was not a given even with Brennan on IR. I kinda thought Daniel was going to be #3. Very nice call!
Hope to see you on the 20th ;-)

i just hope no one picks up daniel and he makes it to the practice squad along with aldridge. so it doesn't come back and bite the skins in the ass as always when they cut good people.

Sorry Mike, the Saints are smarter than "the Vinny"! They snatched up Chase. Oh well, another lousy year with the genius of Vinny. But we should be ok, we still have Westbrook and Tryone on the active roster. Maybe Vinny thinks they can play offensive line as well as CB as well as QB.

these are third stringers. betts is 2nd on the depth chart, how many time you see him run last year? rock is 3rd, how many times did he line up at RB? most of these guys won't even be activated on game day. y'all gotta chill. also, i see why 'skins didn't go with a 3rd QB... they have ARE if it comes to that in a game...
