Malcolm Kelly didn’t actually mean to be a part of today’s Redskins Rides event. Sure, his H2 was on display — clearly labeled, as all the Redskins’ cars are, with his jersey number in the windshield — but that wasn’t what it was doing here in the first place.
“You know what,” Kelly told me as he signed autograph after autograph, “I wasn’t even gonna bring it. I just drove up here to come in and get treatment, and he just put my number in my window and gave me a rental car.”
Which is not to say that Kelly isn’t enthusiastic about his vehicle. “That’s basically my main ride,” he said. “I’ve got a Super Sport in the garage at the house, but I hardly ever bring that out. I wanted to get something different, something everybody else ain’t have. Only other person who got one is LaRon, and he’s got a white one. It’s just a little playtoy, man.”
Speaking of plays, something else Kelly was enthusiastic about was the opening play of last night’s game, a long post route that Jason Campbell just underthrew.
“It felt good,” he said of having his number called to open the game. “Woulda felt real good if we’d've completed it, y’know? Long touchdown on the first play of the came, that would’ve really set the tone.”
He shook his head, still frustrated. “It was close. The crazy thing, though, is that me and Jason never practiced that route all week long. The first time we ran it was in the game. We’ll get it done, though — we’ll complete it next time.”
