Becky’s Place is a really impressive Seattle Seahawks fan site that’s been around for more than a decade, with an excellent selection of material about the team’s past. As a result, it’s also an excellent place to dig up old Jim Zorn stuff. I stumbled across this Yogurt Shake recipe there months ago, wasn’t sure how best to use it, and moved on with my life.
But Coach Zorn’s wife Joy was at practice today, and we were exchanging pleasantries when I found myself saying, “I came across a recipe of yours online,” and calling up the website on my phone. (Click to enlarge.)
The first thing Joy Zorn spotted was her kids, of course, marveling at how much younger they were. “This was a long time ago,” she said.
“Before we left Seattle, we did another one, with’s Jim’s favorite birthday cake.” (I have not found this one yet.)
“Yogurt shake,” she said, shaking her head. “Let me guess: it’s yogurt, obviously. And a banana… and…?” She paused. “Some milk, maybe? What else would there be?”
I told her about the orange juice and asked if she still makes this. “Oh definitely. Jim loves this kind of thing. He’s not, like, a health nut or anything, but he likes to eat a smart diet.”
Everything in moderation, I suggested. “Exactly,” she said, laughing. “Act medium.”
So what would 2009 Joy Zorn do differently, if you were giving this recipe out now? “I think I’d add some other thing, like maybe some protein powder just to sneak it in there. And I’ve learned that frozen strawberries or frozen raspberries make it creamier without diluting it like ice.”
Then Coach Zorn came over, asking “What are you looking at?”
I showed him the screen and he shook his head. “You have to be careful of these people,” he told his wife. “Too much time on his hands finding things like this.”
But what about the shake?
“Oh, sure I still drink that,” Coach Zorn said. “I add things to it now. Strawberries, raspberries, pineapple.”
“That’s true,” Joy Zorn said as they walked off. “He’d add a whole bunch of stuff to it now.”
