Around The Web, Cooley Is The Funniest And Wynn Gives Broadcasting Thoughts

A surprisingly lively day for Redskins mentions around the web.

The various NFL blogs on ESPN are celebrating all-decade week, and today Matt Mosley’s NFC Beast blog takes a look at All-Decade Moments. (Which, let’s be honest, is kind of a vague sub-category. But still!)

The bad news for the Skins is that we don’t show up in Play of the Decade, Most Feared Player of the Decade, Best Commercial of the Decade, or any of the other indisputably positive awards.

The good news comes in two parts: first, we avoided Scandal of the Decade, which is good. And second, the team essentially took home the Matt Mosley equivalent of “Most Entertaining” in this round of NFL Superlatives:

Funniest player: The NFL doesn’t really have an answer to Charles Barkley, although Clinton Portis had a nice run a few years ago when he came up with several alter egos. Let’s give it to one of Portis’ teammates, tight end Chris Cooley. Occasionally he crosses the line (accidentally publishing a picture of his manhood on The Cooley Zone blog), but he’s consistently funny. Still love that he walked out to midfield a couple of years ago and introduced himself to the opposing captains as “Captain Chaos.” There’s not enough of that type stuff going around.

Would it be nicer to have Play of the Decade? Yes, it probably would. But this was nice recognition of a very good locker room nonetheless.Speaking of good locker room guys, Renaldo Wynn talks with Ross Tucker at SI.com about some of his thoughts on broadcasting. And he’s pretty candid in his comments, too — here he is on a broadcaster he doesn’t care for:

Wynn: “I played in New York last year and guys are still talking about Tiki Barber [NBC]. He had just retired and was already bashing [Tom] Coughlin and Eli [Manning], which is the worst thing he could have done. I think it bit him in the butt in the end because no players wanted to talk to him and the Giants won the Super Bowl. He hurt himself by doing that.”

And he doesn’t stop there; his comments on the qualities he dislikes in on-air personalities ring the same bell again. I’m looking forward to doing a more thorough debriefing with Wynn and Antwaan Randle El when they get back from the broadcasting bootcamp, but this is an interesting tide-me-over look at that aspect of their lives until then
