Monday, June 15: Chris Cooley Plays Quarterback
I briefly stopped by Chris Cooley's football camp in Fairfax, Virginia, this weekend, and stuck around long enough to watch Cooley -- along with the kind folks from ProCamps -- putting a couple hundred kids through their paces. I left just before they moved from drills to one-hand-touch scrimmages, with Cooley on the mic explaining that when he got into a game, he'd be taking over as quarterback.
"I'm not gonna come in as a tight end," he told them. "I don't really think I need more practice at that today."
Based on this video from his blog, looks like he was serious about the quarterback thing. Not too bad at it, either, although I don't think Jason Campbell -- or Todd Collins, Colt Brennan, or Chase Daniel, for that matter -- have too much to worry about. Still, good to see all that practice throwing at the crossbar during pregame has paid off.

Perhaps the most meaningful activity a player can perform in the offseason- or any season!

Matt,
Why didn't you blog about Lorenzo Alexander's football camp held a couple of weeks ago? It was free to the participants as opposed to $200 for Cooley's camp.
Lorenzo had a number of Redskins players out there working with local Jr. and Sr. high school kids. It was a lot of fun and great experience for the kids, and they were also treated to inspirational talks by the players.
Thanks Lorenzo

I will be -- I had some technical difficulties with my photos from there, but should have a post up it in the next day or so.
And you're right: it was a really nice event.

Is this going to be one in one of those commercials that play all the time on NFLN? Did Cooley have any good one liners like Santana Moss' "look at those feet, can I buy those off you?"

Great video Matt. It looks like we can install the wild-cat offense and offer Cooley and Portis a position at Quarterback. Just kidding. HAHA!

Get some Jack. Can we sign the kid throwing through the tires? Practice squad material considering the drills Zorn likes to run for the QBs.
