Friday, June 12: DeAngelo Hall is Very, Very Hungry

Antwaan Randle El likes being on TV. Last season, he hosted Redskins Gameday on Fox-5, and he's attending the NFL's Broadcasting Boot Camp at the end of this month. So when NFL Network was looking for a guy to interview a few of his teammates, El was a logical choice.
And if we learn nothing else from his off-the-practice-field interview of DeAngelo Hall, we learn this: DeAngelo Hall is hungry. He even says "hungry" with some serious enthusiasm, drawing it out into a near-drawl to emphasize just how much he wants to succeed this year.
Here, for those of you who hate moving pictures and audio, is a transcription of the relevant portion of the interview.
Hall: "Man, I'm just hungry. I'm hungry, man. I'm so hungry.
"You know, I think earlier in my career things were a little bit easy. It started off so easy, getting to two Pro Bowls in three years, and being so young and just having so much success that ... I kinda went out to Oakland and, you know, the losing and just the attitude kinda rubbed off on everybody. Being at home for those couple days after being released, you know, it kinda awakened me a little bit. You know, I came here hungry.
"I grew up a couple hours down the road from D.C., so just being close to home has definitely lit a fire. A lot of my critics have lit a fire under me. You know, I'm playing with a chip on my shoulder this year.
"I'm 25 years old, I still feel like I got the best years to come, so I'm definitely hungry. You see me working everyday in practice, after practice, before practice ... so, man, I'm just hungry."
That's hungry times six, for those of you keeping score at home, and that, my friends, is VERY hungry.

Seems like we have a lot of guys with "chips" on their shoulder this season. I'm getting pretty stoked about this season...J Camp has a fire and something to prove with all his teammates behind him, Fletcher's got that chip after not making it to the Pro Bowl after his awesome season, D Halls HUNGRY, D Thomas and F Davis are out there to prove they can play in this league....if this continues the league better look out!

Don't forget Haynesworth, He's trying to prove he's not only worth the money but he wants to be remembered as a pro bowl not a face stomper, I say, can't it be both?

I'll second that, gforce083...and Matt, I love the coverage of stuff like this.
Any chance that while you're running articles on the 'hunger' of our Skins players, you can look at the recent Comcast Sportsnet poll that ranked Haynesworth as the #2-toughest player in the NFL, ahead of such names as Ray Lewis and James Harrison? I was honestly surprised not to see Portis mentioned on that list, given the way he continues to put himself in harm's way to gain the extra yard or protect his quarterback. He's gotta be one of the toughest RB's in the league.
...just ask Mathias Kiwanuka after Portis leveled him in Week 1 of '08...

I have a feeling DeAngelo is going to make everyone forget about his contract this season. He really seems to have matured from his days in Atlanta and you can really sense the determination in his voice through different interviews. Now the only thing left is for all this "hunger" to translate into actual production.
Is it just me or does Zorn need to do away with the dark socks and go back to the classic white, burgundy and gold striped ones??
