Jeremy Bridges Signs, Appears Ready For Local Commercials

Posted by Matt Terl on May 5, 2009 – 6:53 pm

The Redskins signed offensive lineman Jeremy Bridges today, after the offensive lineman impressed coaches at the team’s minicamp this past weekend.

Bridges has started 39 of the 62 games in which he’s played over his career, and is expected to join the competition along the offensive line, probably at the right tackle spot.

He’s got a long way to go to make the team, of course, both in terms of time and roster spots. And even if he does make the squad, there’s no reason to believe that he would make a substantial impact. But if all of that should somehow happen, based on his 2007 work in a commercial for CPI Security Systems in Charlotte, he should be adequately prepared for the rigors of an Eastern Motors commercial shoot.

Other Notes From Practice

Posted by Matt Terl on May 5, 2009 – 3:14 pm

Since my earlier practice update wound up unusually focused, I figured I’d split these out into a separate post.

Fred Davis admittedly does not look particularly fast or athletic when he’s having a drink of water. Pretty much no one does. But today — for the third or fourth straight day — I was struck by Davis’s footspeed after the catch. He’s a big guy, but is remarkably quick. I really, really hope we get to see it in the regular season this year. (Insert obligatory disclaimer about lack of performance last year here.)

On The Field For Practice – 5/5 – Looking At The Kick Return Question

Posted by Matt Terl on May 5, 2009 – 1:38 pm

Finally, a practice without rain. As those of you following me on Twitter know, Devin Thomas and Clinton Portis were back at practice today, as were new wide receivers Roydell Williams and Trent Sheldon. Still absent were Santana Moss, Laron Landry, London Fletcher, and Hunter Smith.

I’ve talked a fair bit about Anthony Alridge (pictured above) and Dominique Dorsey, the two small fast guys who were brought in this offseason, and about the general speculation that they’re being groomed as Darren-Sproles-lite change-of-pace backs and potential kick returners.

Zorn's Hockey Experience On Video And In Print

Posted by Matt Terl on May 5, 2009 – 11:05 am

When I talked to Coach Zorn yesterday about his plans for the hockey game, I didn’t really expect to see any video of it. Thanks to the magic of Kiss Cam, though, we can.

For more on Zorn’s evening rocking the red, the DC Sports Bog has you covered, as does Ryan O’Halloran at the Washington Times.

(If you missed the game itself, that was pretty terrific as well — highlights after the jump; they, like the Kiss Cam video, are courtesy of Caps365.) Read more »

Tuesday, May 5: Brian Orakpo's Debut In Uniform

Posted by Matt Terl on May 5, 2009 – 10:22 am

Because of rules governing rookie attendance, Brian Orakpo isn’t here for OTAs this week. But — as has been noted here on this blog, in today’s Sporting News, and in plenty of other places — he was here for minicamp, and he looked terrific.

Most reports of him looking terrific have (understandably) focused on his onfield performance. How he’s handling the linebacker position, how quick his first step is, all of that good stuff. They’re not overly concerned with how he looks in his practice jersey, which is how it should be.

All of that said, he did pose in full Redskins gameday attire — the team wanted to take pictures for various in-season uses, and this was the best time to do it — and he looked just as menacing and imposing as you’d hope.

A few more pictures after the jump.
