Andrew Perloff at SI.com posted his first 2010 mock draft yesterday. To his credit, even he admits that it’s ridiculously early for such an endeavor, but still, let’s see what’s he’s got the Redskins doing.
13. Washington Redskins
Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
All it takes is for one team to fall in love with the chosen one. No owner develops crushes like Daniel Snyder, who will take Tebow 10 picks too early. Tebow doesn’t necessarily fit the mold of a Jim Zorn quarterback, but there could be a new coach in Washington by draft day if the Redskins end up slotted at No. 13.
There’s very little that I like about this projection. Drafting at 13 implies another 8-8ish finish, which does not sound like fun. I’m still recovering from the last two rounds of quarterback speculation, and really don’t want to think along those lines just now. Plus I remain convinced that this will be a breakout season for Jason Campbell. So, yeah. Not a lot to like.
In fact, the only thing about this that’s even remotely entertaining is the possibility of having a quarterback depth chart made up entirely of 2007 Heisman Trophy finalists: current third-stringer Colt Brennan, undrafted free agent signee Chase Daniel, and — according to this projection — actual 2007 Heisman winner Tebow. All we’d need to do is trade for Raiders running back Darren McFadden and we’d have the whole set.
In the end, though, I think we can safely say this projection is completely bogus. The idea that underclassmen Arrelious Benn AND Bryan Bulaga will both declare and push Tebow down in the draft is simply preposterous.
