Pick #221: Redskins Select Eddie Williams, TE From Idaho
The Redskins select Eddie Williams, tight end out of Idaho. I'm hearing reports that the team may plan to list him as a fullback, and also that he's got something of a chip on his shoulder after dropping in the draft because of a knee injury that ended his season.
Here's the NFL.com analysis:
Here's the NFL.com analysis:
Williams looks like a fullback and plays like a wide receiver. His production (54 catches, 687 yards, six touchdowns) and leadership made him the team's 2008 Most Valuable Player. And his versatility put him on the NFL draft map. Whether it's at fullback or H-back, the versatility of the first-team All-WAC pick could make him a tough player to keep off someone's roster next September. Had an arm span of 31 3/4 inches and a hand span of 9 inches at the combine.

No offense to Williams but I don't like this pick at all. For starters, they aren't addressing the O-line in anyway. Samuels and Jansen are getting older and they saw what happened in the second half of the season with the pass protection. It's like these guys are going out of their way to not draft a lineman. I guess signing Mike Williams was THE answer. Idiots.
As for Williams, even if they move him to H-Back/Fullback, he's still undersized. I doubt he even makes the final roster in September. Way to go Cerrato & Co.!

There seem to be a solid line up of defenders in our draft. I Iike the the pick of kevin barnes, he seems like a good continuation of our already amazing secondary. this fb might turn out to be a good replacment for sellars with some goood coaching.
I beleive if we can manage our o-line with what we have aquired and what we might sign....then next years 1st is going to be an offense lineman....you can quote on that when we pick him up on our 32nd pick in the 2010 draft =D

Need some of Liz K from Hawaii karma.
Where/when is the Oline development coming. We had a few solid picks in the draft with the D..... but can Dockery really develop Mike Williams??
Oh where oh where is the Oline going (set it to music)
Guess Vinny/Danny have a plan - hopefully it is not to let the offense die

Second thought, maybe they (Vinny/Snyder) are hoping several of these picks can be used for trades before the season.... I dunno

Our drafting had been set on auto pilot of the brand new ea sports game next year. Vinny and Dans Throw it away Football. lol evryone we draft hets cut except orakpo and barnes. it's obvious, all the money we are going to shell out to haynesworth. example. 1.taking a half back that plays middle linebacker. 2. taking a linebacker that will play special teams at best. 3. taking a tight end/fullback that we will have to nurse back to health who eventually gets cut and we sign a Free Agent. woooooo can't wait to see our last pick not go to an O-lineman that would calm us fans down. i like how we got Orakpo and cerrato says its something that will make the fans happy. Face it redskins fans( along with myself ) we took Orakpo cause Sanchez was to expensive and we were lucky to see Orakpo fall to us to leave us with no choice but to take him. It might have been a good thing all along that danny boy goes after free agents...Cause we cannot draft with Vinny!!!

I think we are going to address the line with a couple free agents that are still out there.

The draft is about potential. Picking the best available this far down the line is fine. Sub Dock for Kendall and all that's missing is pass blocking at the RT with Jansen. Hopefully they'll grab an upgrade off of waivers to fit that one hole.
Overall, not a bad draft.

Ok well first of all i think nice choice on Brian Orakpo. And the cornerback also the 2 linebackers. but we need some help on the oline! All we do is add to our defense our defense was pretty good cmon guys lets work on offense

This is Sellars replacement. Dude is more of a HB player. Something like Cooley when he first started here. If he didn't get injuried, he would of gone a lot sooner, so great value for the pick. Now we have a FB that can CATCH the ball. Great!

The o-line will be fine Jansen will be playing RG,Heyer is going to be the starting RT this year. I am quite sure that has already been stated. It seem the Skins picked the best available instead of reaching for needs. I would have like to seen a center taken for depth. We now have a tall redzone threat if this kid makes the team.
