Thursday, April 2: A Quick Word On Cutler, And Clinton Portis Adopts An Alias

Posted by Matt Terl on April 2, 2009 – 12:15 pm

Just a very quick word on the whole Jay Cutler thing: I’m at Redskins Park today, I’m asking most of the same questions everyone else is, and I’m getting the same “no comment” style answers. I was told unequivocally that the team was not making calls to move Jason Campbell yesterday, but that’s about it. As soon as I have something concrete, I’ll let you know.

Meanwhile, Clinton Portis was on Redskins Nation on Comcast SportsNet yesterday, and it was another strong interview. If you watch online, you can hear him talk about frisbee, about his reaction to the offseason moves, and about how he views his relationship with Coach Zorn, and about his prospects for taking over Larry Michael’s job.

At the end of the interview, though, are two notably entertaining bits. First, if you were someone who held off purchasing a Portis Pockets Straight T-shirt from Mister Irrelevant because you weren’t 100% sure exactly what the slogan meant, Portis comes to the rescue:

Portis: “My paycheck is gonna continue to be my paycheck. So I’m not hurtin’, I’m not dying to be friends with somebody, I don’t care what people throw out and say about me. When I go home, I go home in luxury. I live my life, I do the things I want to do. If I feel like travelling, I travel. If I feel like buying a new car, then I buy a new car. If I feel like hanging out, I go out and party. If I feel like staying low, I do me. So when I say my pockets straight, that means I do me, and I will continue to do me, and no matter what you say, I’m'a do it. What you gonna do?”

He also discussed the possibility of changing his name, a la Chad Ocho Cinco:

Portis: “You know what, man, I’ve been thinking about changing my name for real, ever since I talked to Chad. You know, Chad threw it out that maybe I should, and I think I’m gonna just change my whole name to Diego Morales. You know, I always wanted to be … he just sounds like a hard-working guy. Diego Morales. That’s my screen name, my IM.”
