Ethan Albright doesn’t always love being the object of attention — a fair bit of Casey Rabach‘s footage from being on the road sits largely unseen because Albright is sitting in the background making unkind gestures at the camera.
But this weekend, North Carolina advanced to the NCAA Final Four, so Albright was more than happy to stop and show off his gear. Rabach actually predicted this (once he got done asking me where my umbrella was). “Oh, yeah,” he said. “Ethan’ll definitely want his picture taken. Definitely.”
And he did.
“Oh, that’s right,” Albright said, “It’s football season again in Oklahoma, isn’t it?” He laughed.
“A couple of years,” he said. “I was smart, though, and got one with no name on it. That way, you don’t have to replace it.”
So it’s not a Tyler Hansbrough jersey, see? It’s just a North Carolina jersey with number 50 on it, which Albright just happens to be wearing today.
Alfred Fincher, a Connecticut guy, walked out just as Albright left, and I asked if he’d been watching any of the games. “Definitely,” he said, “both men’s and women’s.”
Did you see what Ethan was wearing?
“I did.” He laughed. “If we face them, we’ll definitely have to do some kind of a bet. Something.”
And then, since he’s the only other person I’ve seen here who admits to watching women’s basketball, I chirped about the Terp Women possibly being able to derail UConn’s perfect season down the line and he just shook his head at me sadly. (If he had read this Mike Wise column on Marissa Coleman’s insane performance from Saturday, he’d be more worried.)
There are no current Redskins from Villanova, and I haven’t gotten a chance to ask Devin Thomas for his thoughts on the Michigan State Spartans yet. I think it’s safe to say that he will be just a bit fired up.
