Prepping For The Press Conference
In a little less than an hour, the Albert Haynesworth press conference kicks off in the auditorium here at Redskins Park. Sometime not long after that, possibly on this very site, there will be a picture of Haynesworth. He will be standing at a podium holding a #92 Redskins jersey with his name on the back, smiling and looking out at the assembled DC media.
Which is why, earlier today, equipment manager Brad Berlin was downstairs in the equipment room, assembling letters on the table...

...slow-pressing them onto the jersey...

...and then quick-blasting them permanently into place.

What you get at the end isn't a game-ready jersey, but it's also not quite an appearance jersey -- both of those use stitch-on letters on a nameplate, not iron-on letters. What this is, essentially, is a prop to facilitate that inevitable "new guy holding the jersey picture." Nothing more, and nothing less.

Matt, is there any buzz around Redskins park about the potential of re-signing Derrick Dockery now that Buffalo has released him? I know that after the megabucks signings we just had, we can't have much room to work with, but if we got Dock back, that'd help solidify another huge question mark area with a guy who's familiar with how we do things. Kinda like he took the "Smoot sabbatical". :)

Looking at these pics, it's finally starting to sink in that Haynesworth is a part of the Burgundy & Gold family. I've said my peace about the inept duo of Snyder & Cerrato but I will hope for nothing but the best for and from Haynesworth from here on. Adding THE best defensive tackle to a No. 4 ranked defense has to be exciting to even the most disappointed fan.
Here's to a SUPER 2009 season!

Well I got the Dockery thing right. Now, would anyone object to a CB corps of Carlos Rodgers, DeAngelo Hall, Fred Smoot, and Dre Bly? Bly is at the point of his career where the conversation about him becoming a CB/S tweener. Kind of like a younger, healthier Shawn Springs (and might cost less too) Not to mention that before Detroit traded him to Denver, he said publicly that he wanted to be a Redskin. He grew up in the area, and after all, don't we want guys who want to be here?

Ehh...i dont know about Dre Bly. We got Justin Tryon to develop as well as Byron Westbrook who needs to make the team this year or he'll be wit another club. Anyone hear anymore on the rumors of talks with Chris Canty? Sorry guys, i hate the cowboys as much as anyone, infact i even made a song that played on the radio about how much i hate the cowboys @ www.youtube.com/phazard. But really? this would be a good pick up for us. Hes a 6'7" 300 lbs DE whos only 4 years pro. He could help provide good depth this year and develop into a starter next year cuz lets be honest this is probably Jason Taylors last season and Andre Carter isnt gettin younger.-Haz

The Wash. Post reported that Canty was the backup plan if the AH deal had fallen through. That is just as well, since Canty is better suited for a 3-4 than the Redskins 4-3.
The draft is rich in offensive tackles this year. The Redskins should get a tackle with the #13 pick.

Ok, Haynesworth is the premiere DT in the NFL. Is he worth 100 million? Only time will tell, but I will say that no matter who he is, or how much he's making, its classless and insulting for the Redskins to just hand him #92 while Demetric Evans could still potentially end up wearing the burgundy and gold this season. The negotiations over jersey numbers is one that is supposed to happen between the two players vying for that specific number. Demetric has a charity called '92Blessings' and has been nothing but a positive fixture in the DC community. I am floored that the Redskins would disrepsect him and his charity by just handing over #92 to Haynesworth. I mean, why not print a #09 jersey for him to hold up during his initial press conference? Classless move Mr. Snyder!
