Tuesday, January 20: Inauguration Day

President-elect Barack Obama gets to take the -elect off his title today, as he is sworn in as President of the United States in front of crowds of — if you believe the hype — something like several trillion. It’s a historic event by any measure, the sort of thing that people take their kids to just to tell them years later, “You were there,” and it has thrown D.C. into something of a frenzy.

So how does this relate to the Redskins? Well, the players have been keeping busy. You probably heard that Clinton Portis was scheduled to host an inaugural celebration, and Dan Steinberg caught up with Redskins great Dexter Manley at an inaugural gala, so there are those kind of things.

But what’s sort of been forgotten at this point is that Obama actually owes his entire presidency to the Redskins, thanks to the miracles of the Redskins Rule — that is, that if the Skins can win their last home game prior to a presidential election, the incumbent party stays in power.
